Bridgefy is a messaging app and an SDK utilising Bluetooth Low-Energy and Wi-Fi Direct to transmit various packet types, including text, small files, images, locations, and some types of payments for the distance of up to 100 meters (330 feet).
Since being founded in 2014, the app gained popularity during various civil protests. However, initial concerns about security arose due to the app’s lack of encryption measures. To address these concerns, Bridgefy announced the adoption of the Signal protocol in late 2020, aiming to enhance user privacy and security. Despite this effort, security researchers later uncovered flaws in Bridgefy’s implementation of the Signal Protocol, casting doubt on the app’s security.
