James Pavur

James Pavur is a systems security researcher and engineer whose work sits at the intersection of technology and policy. As Platform Architect for Istari Digital he works on helping teams securely collaborate on the development of complex physical systems like vehicles and aircraft using lessons and paradigms from the world of software engineering. He holds a DPhil in Computer Science from Oxford University courtesy of a Rhodes Scholarship. His previous roles include serving as a Presidential Innovation Fellow at the US Department of State’s Office of the Special Envoy for Critical and Emerging Technology and as a Digital Service Expert within the Office of the Secretary of Defense’s Defense Digital Service. He has published extensively on topics relating to secure satellite communications and satellite mission design and his security research has been presented at Black Hat and DEFCON and covered widely in the press.
