The blockathon is a virtual and portable network environment that simulates censorship and Internet shutdowns in a controlled, wireless environment. The gateway runs numerous filtering techniques, currently using the OpenGFW project, as adopted and adapted by eQualitie for the purposes of testing circumvention software and peer-to-peer communication services.
The Blockathon presents controlled and gamified scenarios to allow for real world testing of circumvention technologies and to discover new methods of traffic obfuscation; novel bootstrapping techniques and other ways to bypass network restrictions.
